Richard E. Hathaway, Sr.

Richard E. Hathaway, Sr., 82, of Lizton, IN passed away, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 14, 2024.  He was born in Indianapolis, and was the son of the late Edward and Ethel (Tomlin) Hathaway.  He attended Washington High School in Indianapolis for a few years before going to work for his father at Ed’s Tinning and Roofing. Richard was a retired General Contractor specializing in home remodels. 

Richard met Linda 45 years ago and together they raised a beautiful, blended family of 6.  He was a kind soul, faithful and devoted husband and father, always there to help or offer practical advice.  He loved to go rabbit hunting, and drink unsweet iced-tea adding 6 packs of sugar.  He was goofy and loved to tease and have fun.  At Halloween he’d dress up and looked forward to the Halloween party. 

Richard and Linda were members of the Northview Christian Church in Danville, it was a very special day when they both were baptized, on the same day, accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  More recently they attended Crosspointe Church.  Richard will be remembered as an exceptional example of a Christian man, kind, loving and faithful.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Hathaway; children, Mike Minor, John Minor, Richard Hathaway, Jr., Kenneth Howald, and Jeremy (Amanda) Howald; grandchildren, Brittany Rakes, JJ (Olivia) Howald, Tristan (Tessa) Rakes, Gavin Boyd, Garrett Boyd, Griffin Boyd, Peyton Howald, Braden Howald, Grant Boyd, Zakai Hathaway and Alayna Hathaway; 7 great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Howald, and his sister, Shirley Hathaway.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville. A funeral service will be held the following day at 2:00 p.m. with a 1 hour visitation prior. Burial will follow in the Lizton K of P Cemetery, Lizton, IN.
