Bob Wathen Obituary

James Robert “Bob” Wathen, 94, of Danville, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2023,
at the Avon Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born in Montgomery, Indiana on March 30, 1929,
a son of the late James Orbey and Mable (Carrico) Wathen.
Bob graduated from Montgomery High School with the class of 1947.  Shortly thereafter he married
Katherine (Dant) Wathen and together they had 3 children. She preceded him in death in 1984.  Bob
later married Elizabeth (Boyers) Wathen, sharing 24 years before her death in 2012.  Bob was a
carpenter and business owner. He built his own home as well as one of his children.  Bob was a member
of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greencastle, IN.  His hobbies included woodworking, boating
and fishing. Bob loved his family and will be remembered for his warm and caring personality.
Bob is survived by three children; James Douglas (Nancy) Wathen of Fishers, IN, Michael Allen (Rhonda)
Wathen of Clayton, IN, Lorie Kaye (Kevin) Soltis of Brownsburg, IN; step-children, Jeffrey (Debi) Boyers of
Leesburg, VA, and Pamela (James) Ventura of Amelia, OH; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren;
surviving siblings; Aggie Wilcoxen, John (Joanie) Wathen, Helen (Jim) Traylor; brother-in-law, Joseph
Traylor,  sister-in-law, Mickey Wathen.  In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by siblings,
Mary Butcher, Gladys Traylor, Louise Gervasio, Patrick Wathen and Thomas Wathen; brothers-in-law,
Donald Butcher, William Gervasio, and Eugene Wilcoxen.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday, January 18, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 9833 E. County Rd. 750 N., Brownsburg, IN 46112.

Bob’s cremated remains will be interred with his late wives in Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville, IN 46122.  Online
