Asa Charles Jenkins, Jr.

February 9, 1940 — September 1, 2023

Danville

Asa Charles Jenkins, Jr., 83, of Danville, Indiana passed away in his home, surrounded by his family on Friday, September 1, 2023. He was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on February 9, 1940, a son of the late Asa and Virginia (Blythe) Jenkins. He proudly served his country for six years as a member of the United States Army Nation Guard where he was decorated with the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. He met the love of his life, Diane (Alkire) Jenkins while they were cruising the beer gardens in Indianapolis and they were married 3 weeks later. They recently celebrated 59 years together in June.

Asa worked for Rexnord/Link Belt and retired in 2002 after 34 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Avon, Indiana. He often stated that he loved being a husband, father and grandfather. His wife and girls loved and appreciated his tender heart, and that he pursued them with genuine love and affection. His greatest joy was his family. His family and friends knew that he could fix about anything and that he had a gift for woodworking. He created beautiful pieces of furniture for many people and was often called upon to fix the car, change the tire, or please pick me up, “I locked my keys in the car...again.” His curious nature made him a life long learner, his mischievousness and quick wit made him delightfully unpredictable and his ingenuity made him an excellent craftsman and mechanic. On November 29, 1964, Asa believed the scripture that says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13), and he gave his life to Christ. In his final days, his faith in his Lord gave him strength in his affliction and he did not waver in his trust in God to carry him safely to heaven. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” I Corinthians 2:9

Asa is survived by his loving wife, Diane Jenkins; 4 daughters, Becky (Peter) Louton of Nashville, Ind., Paula (John) Molloy of Hobe Sound, FL, Amy Pointer of Indianapolis, Ind., and Brenda (Tom) Lynch of Danville, Ind.; grandchildren, Bruce Hadley, Mitchell Hadley and Brooke Hadley Barber, Neal Molloy, Elliott Molloy, and Max Molloy, Brenda Burrows and Steven Burrows, Nick Lynch, Asa Lynch, and Karen Lynch Curry; 4 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Joyce (Jim) Robinson, Diana (Michael) Jordan, Christie Green, Barbara (Bryan) Basey, and brother, Brian (Terri) Jenkins. Asa also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ken Green.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Faith Baptist Church 3860 E. Main St. Danville, Ind. from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in Clayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good News Mission, Indianapolis.
