Yovonne "Rose" Tolbert

Yovonne “Rose” Tolbert, 79, of Danville, passed away at home on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

She was born on January 24, 1944 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Isaac and Grace (Trent) McKinney.  In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister-in-law, Brenda McKinney, with whom she was close to, like a sister.

Rose lived in Eminence, Ind. up until the age of six before the family moved to Pittsboro, Ind, where she graduated with the class of 1962.  She married her best friend, David Tolbert on June 1, 1963.  They completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Angela.  Rose always had a mothering spirit and was very generous with her love. She taught pre-school for many years at Buttons and Bows in Avon, and the Northview Christian Church in Danville, where she loved interacting with the children, reading to them and playing with finger puppets.  Rose loved to read crime dramas, sing and country-line dance. One of her favorite past-times was hanging out with her husband, or “papaw”.

Rose is survived by her loving husband of 60 ½ years, Dave Tolbert, daughter, Angie Meacham of Mooresville; granddaughters, Katelynn Meacham of Avon and Kara Meacham of Mooresville; great-grandson, Jonah Knox Edwards of Avon; siblings, Judy Mayo of Huntsville, AL, John McKinney of Lizton, Ind. and Ella Vaughn of Duluth, GA. Also missing Rose are several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 5:00 pm at the Helton & Harris Funeral Home, Danville.  Online condolences may be offered at www.heltonandharrisfuneralhomes.com.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
