Steven J. Howard, 69, of Danville, Indiana, formerly of West Chester, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Steve was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 20, 1957, to Paul and Geneva (Gibson) Howard. He graduated from Lakota High School in 1975 and spent some time working alongside his father at Celotex Building Materials. He later retired from Takumi.
Steve lived in the home he grew up in for most of his life before moving to Danville just two short months ago to be closer to family.
He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures — a good cup of coffee, watching sports, movies, and spending time with those he loved. He was a devoted fan of Kentucky basketball, Ohio State football, and Cincinnati Reds baseball, attending games over the years with his nephew Doug Jr. Even after moving to Indiana, Steve made it clear where his loyalties stood, often joking, “I may move to Indiana, but I’m not rooting for IU or Purdue.”
Steve loved movies of all kinds, especially westerns and Hallmark films, appreciating stories that always ended happily. He had an incredible memory and a remarkable knowledge of sports, music, actors, singers, and current events. Whether it was rock or country, he loved music and could recall details that amazed those around him.
Family meant everything to Steve. He especially looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, wherever there was home cooking. He was known for savoring every bite and somehow always managing to out-eat everyone else at the table. Steve could be stubborn at times, but in his own way he was also flexible, dependable, and deeply caring. Above all, he loved his nieces and nephews and treasured the time spent with family.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Linda (Doug) Jones of Danville, Indiana, and Loretta G. Lambert of Liberty Township, Ohio; and by his nieces and nephews: Doug (Shagae) Jones Jr., Amy Porter, Nicole (Rob) McDugle, Courtney (Donnie) Plummer, and Catrina Segrist.
He will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, sharp memory, love of family, and the countless conversations shared over coffee, sports, movies, and music.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Turningpointe Church, 7019 Tylersville Road, West Chester Township, OH 45069.
