Ron Heller

June 26, 1945 — March 13, 2026

Pittsboro

Ronald Frederick Heller, 80, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away on March 13, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on June 26, 1945, in Mount Comfort, Indiana to Charles and Janice Heller, and grew up alongside his brother, Larry, who preceded him in death.

Ron graduated from Mount Comfort High School and briefly attended Purdue University. During the Vietnam War, he proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Floyd County (LST-762), earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze service star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his service, Ron worked as a communications technician for Indiana Bell, Ameritech, AT&T, and Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. After retiring from his telecommunications career, he continued working, driving a charter bus for Star of America Motorcoach and later a school bus for Brownsburg Community School Corporation.

Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geneva Heller; his sons Derek Heller (Lauren) and Dustin Heller (Marci); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A man of faith in Jesus Christ, Ron was a longtime member of Bethesda Baptist Church and Faith Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his Bible and studying the Old Testament, riding his motorcycle, studying globes and maps for hours, sitting in his yard watching the sunset, going out to eat, meeting friends for coffee, and watching his favorite television shows, Walker, Texas Ranger and Little House on the Prairie.

Known for his sense of humor, Ron was full of one-liners and loved to “cut up.” Some of his favorite sayings were, “I’m glad you got to see me,” and “Come back when you can’t stay so long.” When it was time to eat, he was always the first in line to fill his plate, though he would jokingly say he couldn’t taste anything. Ron loved hot sauce, a handful of cashews, a good flannel shirt, and building a bonfire for his family to gather around.

He was a giving and loyal man who loved his family well, and we will deeply miss his regular texts, phone calls, and the laughter he brought into our lives. We take comfort in knowing he is united with our Lord in heaven, and for that, we celebrate.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Helton and Harris Funeral Home, Danville.

A celebration of Ron’s life, with military honors will begin at 4:00 pm.
