Mike Simmerman

Michael “Mike” L. Simmerman, 65, recently of Danville and formerly of Spencer, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Born on May 3, 1961, in Noblesville, Indiana, Mike was the son of Janet (Pickett) Simmerman and the late Timothy Simmerman.

Mike spent his life doing what he loved most—traveling the open road. An over-the-road truck driver since the age of 18, he often joked that “The view never changed from my window.” Through decades behind the wheel, he built a career marked by dedication, hard work, and countless miles traveled.

One of Mike’s greatest joys was sharing adventures with the love of his life, his wife, Yalonda. The two met while working at Modern Builders Supply—Mike driving trucks and Yalonda working in the office. What began as a friendship between coworkers grew into a deep and lasting love. They enjoyed spending Friday evenings together playing pool and creating memories with family and friends. Mike and Yalonda were married on April 4, 1997, and together built a life filled with laughter, companionship, and adventure.

Their shared love of travel took them on many memorable motorcycle journeys aboard Mike’s Goldwing. Together they rode to Key West, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Maine, and many destinations in between. Whether crossing the country or simply enjoying the ride, Mike treasured every mile spent with Yalonda. Even in Maine, where many visitors seek lobster, the two preferred to share a good pizza and enjoy each other’s company.

Mike will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, and easygoing nature. He was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor who could make people smile wherever he went. He also had a special love for dogs and enjoyed the companionship they brought throughout his life.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Yalonda Simmerman; his mother, Janet Simmerman of Aurora, Colorado; his son, Jason Simmerman; his two stepsons, Tim (Erin) Schrock, Tony (Jill) Schrock; his sister, Laura Simmerman and brother, Cary Simmerman; 3 grandchildren; his in-laws; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Simmerman.

Mike’s legacy lives on in the memories of the many lives he touched, the miles he traveled, and the love he shared with those closest to him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
