Martha Breneman

October 28, 1929 — January 3, 2026

Clayton

Martha J. (Edmondson) Breneman, 96, of Clayton passed away the morning of January 3, 2026, her family was by her side. She was born October 28, 1929 in Clayton, IN to the late Sam and Ruth (Martin) Edmondson. In addition to her parents she is preceded by her husband, Roy Breneman.

After high school Martha attended Earlham College for a couple years, just long enough to meet her future husband who was there on a basketball scholarship. They were married in 1950 at the Clayton Presbyterian Church. A few years later, they purchased the farm on Amo/Clayton Road where they raised their family and began their career in agribusiness.

While working to build up their farm, Martha was active in the church and Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club and volunteered in the schools as room mother and with band parents. In later years she used her servant’s heart by volunteering to read with students at Mill Creek East, driving for Meals on Wheels, the Mill Creek Support Center and giving blood at nearly every opportunity. She wrote countless notes and delivered meals to not only family, but to many others within the Clayton community.

When she and Roy retired from farming they began traveling across the country. Their travels began as road trips, sometimes with friends and family. Before too many years, however, the RV bug got them and they made countless trips to Florida in the winter and every corner of the country during the summer. Through their travels, they ended up with friends, not only near, but from far away. Traveling allowed Martha to indulge in her love and appreciation of maps and atlases, but along with Roy, their passion often became taking the “road-less-traveled” which led to many unique experiences and personal growth.

Martha is survived by her 3 children, Sandi (Merlin) Martin, Bob (Judy) Breneman and Alan (Helen) Breneman; her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, 2026 at the Clayton Presbyterian Church from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:30 pm. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Clayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Martha’s name to the Mill Creek Community Support Center or to the Clayton Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be offered at www.heltonandharrisfuneralhomes.com.
