Lois Mae Staresina (née Herbert), a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by the family she so dearly loved. She was born on June 23, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Roland and Catherine (Ricke) Herbert.
Lois grew up in the Westlake, Ohio area and attended St Joseph’s Academy. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Staresina, through a friend at a party—a meeting that began a lifetime partnership filled with love, devotion, and quiet strength. Lois and Kenneth were married on May 14, 1960, and shared 66 beautiful years together, building a life rooted in family and faith.
Throughout their years together, Lois and Kenneth made their homes in Gary, Griffith, Merrillville, Indiana and Ypsilanti, Michigan, before retiring to Danville, Indiana to be closer to family. Lois poured her heart into raising her children and caring for her family. In later years, she found special joy in spending time with her granddaughters and cherishing those moments together.
Lois took great pride in her home and found peace in the outdoors. Her flower gardens were a source of joy and accomplishment, and she genuinely enjoyed yardwork. She loved antiquing and shopping. A lifelong reader with a sharp mind and thoughtful spirit, Lois was known for her quiet wisdom and gentle presence. She also enjoyed relaxing evenings watching Dancing with the Stars and The Voice. For the past 20 years, she was a devoted member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Warren Herbert, Denise Mraz Russell Herbert and Karen Lime. Today Lois is wrapped in their arms.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 66 years, Kenneth Staresina; her children, Kevin Staresina of Saline, Michigan, Raymond (Becky) Staresina of Franklin, Ohio, and Sandy (Michael) Meade of Brownsburg, Indiana; her grandchildren, Nicolette (Michael) Scannell, Jacquelyn Meade, and Mackenzie Meade; and her treasured greatgranddaughter, Sophia who will all carry forward memories of kindness and love.
Lois will be remembered for her deep love of family, her pride in home and garden, and the steady, quiet kindness she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, Indiana. Lois will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmstead, Ohio.
