Linda Sue Reed

January 29, 1957 — September 5, 2025

Indianapolis

Linda Sue (Dowell) Reed, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born January 29, 1957, in Indianapolis, the oldest of 8 children to the late Joseph Dowell and Nancy Dillman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Joey Dowell.

Linda attended Plainfield High School. She was very independent and strong-willed, going straight to work to help support her siblings and young daughter. She worked in manufacturing, shipping and receiving for many years. She was a no non-sense employee who did things by the book--taking “ownership” of the roles she was asked to fill. She became an invaluable part of the team while working for Mr. G. Max Rettig, until his death in 2020.

Linda's love and devotion to her family may have only been exceeded by her love of animals. Whether intentional or not, she loved to flex her vast knowledge of all god's creatures. She adored her time taking care of rare and exotic animals while working in an aviary and zoo.

Linda is survived by her husband, John Reed; daughter, Chanda (Tony); sons, Matthew (Daniel) and Johnathon; siblings, Helen, Lori (Bob), Randy, Beth (Matt), Teresa (Fritz) and Amanda; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Helton & Harris Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local animal shelter or ASPCA.
