Leonard Glenn Johnston of Danville, Indiana passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026. He was 92 years old. Glenn was born February 5, 1934 in Bradford Pennsylvania to Donald Graydon and Vivian (Johnson) Johnston. At the age of 21, Glenn moved to Hendricks County, Indiana and there met the love of his life, Joy Jean Plunkett. The two were married September 1, 1956. In his early years, Glenn found work wherever possible. He was a farm hand for Marion “Tiny” Shearer in New Winchester, a veterinary assistant for Dr. Paul Leondis and a pin setter at Country Lanes bowling alley in Danville. Later Glenn accepted a position at Indiana Bell, from which he would retire as a Switch Technician after 28 years of employment.
Following retirement, Glenn loved traveling the country with Joy in their Lazy Daze motor home, wintering in Arizona and Florida, riding steam trains whenever possible and seeking out great finds for his collections of Marx trains, old coins and Case pocketknives. He served as Deacon for the American Baptist Church of Lakeland Florida and was a longtime member of the Danville Lions Club through which he and Joy fostered Labrador puppies that would go on to become Leader Dogs For The Blind. Glenn was a loving father and grandfather, an accomplished bowler, an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and all things Pennsylvania Railroad. He was always quick with a pun or joke, impossible to beat at Scrabble and only liked “two kinds of pie; hot and cold”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Marilyn Speedy, Betty Barnes and Linda Meabon, brother Donald Johnston and his beloved wife Joy Jean (Plunkett) Johnston in 2013.
Glenn is survived by his sister, Janet Parker of Sun City, Arizona, two brothers; Phillip Johnston of Baltimore, Maryland, Alvin Johnston of Avon, Indiana, three children; Glenn Wayne (Angela) Johnston, Julie Ann (David) Dumser and Donald Gregory (Lydia) Johnston all of Danville, Indiana – six grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, eighteen step great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Johnston family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of both Gentiva Hospice and Life’s Journey of Avon whose guidance, compassion, professionalism and exceptional care assured Glenn’s peaceful journey home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
