Harold T. Carter, 88, of Plainfield, Indiana, formerly of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Born on April 4, 1938, in Hot Springs, Virginia, Harold was the son of the late Harry Carter and Bessie (Liptrap) Ball. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Parks and JoAnne Irby, and his brother, Harry Carter.

Harold grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where he built the foundation of a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. While attending the local fair, he met the love of his life, Sue, through mutual friends. Their chance meeting blossomed into a devoted marriage that spanned 64 wonderful years.

From a young age, Harold was known for his strong work ethic. He began working early in life and spent more than 30 years as a truck driver for Thruston Motor Lines and Overnight Transportation. He took great pride in providing for his family and retired in his 50s after a long and dedicated career.

A faithful member of Journey Christian Church in Midlothian, Virginia, Harold lived a life guided by his Christian faith. In retirement, he found joy in tending flower and vegetable gardens, creating woodworking projects, and spending time with those he loved. He also loved cooking for his family and was especially known for baking cakes, which became a cherished way of bringing family and friends together.

Harold will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sue Carter; his children, Chico Carter, Maria Collins, Debi (Frankie) Jacques, and Dianna (Jeff) Clampitt; his nine grandchildren; his sixteen great-grandchildren; his sister, Peggy Samuels; his brother, Howard Carter; and many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and steady presence.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold's life on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Bennet Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway, Chesterfield, Virginia 23832. Harold will be laid to rest at Dale Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Harold's legacy of love, hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family will be treasured always. Though he will be greatly missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
