Harold V. Akers, 85, of Danville, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2025. He was born in Piggott, AR, a son of the late Bonn and Lavina (Webster) Akers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded by 1 sister and 3 brothers.
Harold grew up in Wayne, Michigan graduating from Wayne Memorial High School with the class of 1958. Following graduation, he promptly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a man of adventure, skiing, scuba diving and acquiring his private pilots license. After being honorably discharged from the military, he went to work for General Motors and Detroit Diesel before taking a job with the FAA at the Indianapolis International Airport. He retired as the Supervisor of Airway Facilities after 25+ years of service. He met his wife Betsy while working at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti MI. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage on April 23rd. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling with his Lockheed Martin assignments, and to Florida to spend their winters. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid reader of books about the old west. He spent time wood carving and searching for arrowheads, finding many. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Harold is survived by his wife Betsy Akers; son, Michael (Denise) Akers of Palm Coast, FL, daughter, Suzanne (Sean) Verwold of Danville; grandchildren, Caleb (Erin) Akers of Florence, KY and Hannah (Matt) Hannell of Danville; 5 great-grandchildren (Joseph, George, Brooklynn, Nova and Caiden). Also missing Harold are many extended family members and good friends.
