Dana LeRoy, 67, of Danville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 5, 2026. He was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to the late Henry and Evelyn (Snake) LeRoy.
In addition to his parents, Dana was preceded in death by his twin sister, Diana LeRoy-Haddock; daughter, Guyanna Warrior; son, Shane N. LeRoy; brothers, Logan and Jarvis LeRoy; and his grandparents, Parrish and Eunice Williams, and grandfather, Henry Snake.
Dana was a proud member of the Ponca-Omaha and became a World Champion Native American Straight Dancer. He had a deep appreciation for traditional arts and enjoyed beadwork and quillwork. Dana met the love of his life, Debra, at a Pow-Wow in Mississippi, and the two shared 35 wonderful years of marriage.
He enjoyed attending Indianapolis Colts games and going to the Indy 500. Dana also had a soft heart for animals and was known for welcoming many stray pets into his home—often with Debra’s approval. His faith was very important to him, and he loved sharing the Word of God. Dana was a member of the Native American Church of the Morning Star in Michigan. Dana walked a path where the smoke of the alter and the breath of prayer rose as one, a man whose life was centered on Jesus above all else. As a devoted member of the Native American Church of the Morning Star, he found a sacred harmony between his identity and his Savior, honoring the creator through traditional practices passed down through generations. To him, the peyote ways were a road of healing and humility that led him closer to the heart of God. He lived with the understanding that his faith did not replace his heritage, but fulfilled it, finding Christ’s presence in the sacred songs, the steady beat of the drum, and the quiet reverence of the tipi.
Over the years, Dana courageously battled many health challenges. Despite these struggles, he remained grateful for the time spent with family and friends. During his dialysis treatments, he especially looked forward to visiting with his close friend, Josh. Dana cherished his grandchildren and loved attending as many of their sporting events and activities as possible.
Dana is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 35 years, Debra LeRoy; daughters, Heather (Andy) Sutherlin of Bell Union, Indiana, and Corey (Alyssa) Cusick-LeRoy of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Bobbie Lee and Andrew “AJ” Sutherlin Jr., Shiloh, and David; brothers, Shannon (Tina) LeRoy of Enid, Oklahoma, and Robert LeRoy of California; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his faithful companions, his dog Tripp and his cat Beasty.
