Cecil Grubbs

Cecil Grubbs, 91, of Danville, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025. He was born in Indianapolis on February 3, 1934 to the late Cecil and Wilma (Radcliff) Grubbs, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Grubbs and sisters, Margaret, Evelyn, Arvina, and Linda. 

Cecil grew up in Indianapolis, served in the storied US Army 82nd Airborne, worked as a master cabinet maker and then as a railroader.  He enjoyed riding motorcycles, maintaining his farm on his tractor, shooting, and woodworking. He also enjoyed exercising, spending many mornings at the gym and running 28 Indy Mini Marathons. He was a 50-year member of Indianapolis Lodge 669, F&AM, a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Clayton, and was celebrated on Indy Honor Flight 43 in September 2024.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet Grubbs; 3 sons, Ralph Grubbs of Knoxville, TN, Lewis Grubbs of Danville, IN and John (Teresa) Grubbs of Clayton, IN; sister, Gloria Wright of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Tyler (Melissa) Grubbs, Shelby Alexander, and Elizabeth (Dalton) Smith, and great-grandson, Hugo Grubbs.

A memorial will be held Saturday, December 13th at First Baptist Church of Clayton at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Indy Honor Flight at indyhonorflight.org/donate. Online condolences may be offered at www.heltonandharrisfuneralhomes.com.
