Carol (Stephenson) Dodson

Betty Carol (Stephenson) Dodson, 88, of Danville passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 27, 1936, a daughter of the late George A. and Thelma (Bodily) Stephenson. In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded by her husband, Don Dodson.

Carol grew up in Danville, IN, graduating with the class of 1955. After graduation Carol was accepted to Brigham Young University but opted to stay home and work for a semester. During that time Don Dodson returned from his time in the service and she ended up marrying that boy who teased her mercilessly on the school bus. She and Don were married December 23, 1955, and were sealed to each other for all time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on April 23, 1959. Together they raised 10 children. Carol was very active in church. She served in various leadership roles including president of the children’s Primary Group, President of the Women’s Auxiliary Relief Society. She served in the church’s Regional Family Living assisting with adoptions and welfare services. She taught Seminary to teenagers for 4 years. She and Don were firm in their beliefs. They were generous with their time and resources often opening their home to many in need over the years.

Carol and Don had their own business in which she assisted with the clerical work. Carol, was a great supporter of Danville Little League Baseball with all her sons playing ball. She served as president of the league for a year. As her children grew and moved away, she and Don continued to travel to follow and support their grandchildren and great grandchildren in their various activities. All this, while pursuing her dream of receiving her Nursing degree and License at age 61.

Carol enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving, making bread and crafting. She’d won blue ribbons at the county fair for her quilling and book folding. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Stephenson, her eldest son, Donald ‘Rusty’ Dodson II, grandson, Jacob Dodson, and son in law Michael Hogan.

 Carol is survived by her children: Debora (Mark) Severinsen of Warrenton, MO; Dawnna (Miguel Guerra) Hogan-Guerra of Apex, NC; Daniel (Jennifer) Dodson of Edmond, OK; Douglas (Ruth) Dodson of Pleasant Grove, UT; Dee Anna (Rick) Ross of Kingsville, MO; Drew (Julie) Dodson of Saratoga Springs, UT; Damon (Jennifer) Dodson of Pleasant Grove, UT; Danena (Eric) Cahill of Loganville, GA; Dixie (Bill) Brostrom of Mentone, CA; daughter-in-law, Shari Dodson of Mapleton, UT; 43 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Jones and B. Jane (Wayne) Auger, and her brother, Kenneth (Sue) Stephenson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2125 Reeves Road, Plainfield, Ind. 46168.
