Robert "Bob" Keith Lytle

Jan 3, 1947 — Jun 3, 2026

Danville

Robert “Bob” Keith Lytle, 79, of Danville, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Bob was born to Edgar and Irene (Pangburn) Lytle, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Clay Lytle; brother, Charles Lytle; sisters, Sue Allen, Jan Mitchell, Phyllis Hamm, Merle Lytle; and sister-in-law, Mary Collins.

Growing up in Maysville, Kentucky, Bob graduated from Maysville High School before answering the call to serve his country. From 1967 to 1969, he proudly served in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner and mechanic. His courage, dedication, and service remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Bob had a lifelong passion for automobiles. He loved restoring and showing classic cars, especially his treasured 1966 Chevelle Super Sport, 1978 Monte Carlo, and 1951 Ford F-150. Many weekends were spent attending car shows and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and cherished memories of attending the Brickyard 400 with his son, Clay, including the year Jeff Gordon claimed victory. He worked for Roadway Express for 30 years as a diesel mechanic, RND  Transport, and then for Dorsey Plumbing. Upon his retirement, Bob was thrilled to receive tickets to Bristol Motor Speedway, a gift that reflected how well he was known and appreciated.

Bob was a faithful member of Kingsway Christian Church since 1980. His church family was an important part of his life, and his faith provided strength, comfort, and guidance throughout the years.

Above all else, Bob was devoted to his family. Whether cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, attending recitals, or simply spending time together, he treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren. His first grandchild lovingly gave him the name “Poppy,” a title he proudly carried and cherished for the rest of his life.

Bob is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 56 years, Sharon (Parker) Lytle; his daughter, Bobbette (Patrick) Sturgeon; his grandchildren, Faith (Will) Nixon, Keith and Parker Sturgeon; his great-granddaughters, Adelynn Grace, and one expected in July; his sister, Kay Fritz; sisters-in-law, Judy Rosser and Donna Osman; and his beloved fur baby, Sadie. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his love, guidance, and the countless memories they shared.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Helton & Harris Funeral Home, 102 S. Indiana St., Danville, IN 46122 from 4:30 - 7:30 PM. A funeral Service will be held the following day at 11:00 AM with a one-hour visitation prior. He will be laid to rest in West Ridge Park Cemetery, with military honors.

In honor of Bob’s love of classic cars, family and friends attending the visitation or funeral service are invited to drive their classic cars as a tribute to his lifelong passion.
