Arley Burd

September 7, 1943 — January 8, 2026

Avon

Arley Lee Burd, Jr., 82, of Avon, Indiana passed away peacefully the evening of January 8, 2026. He was born on September 7, 1943 in London, Kentucky to the late Arley Burd and Verlie (Weaver) Gross.

The family moved from Kentucky to Danville, IN when Arley was six years old. He began working for various dairy farms at a young age. He served his country in the United States Army-stationed in Germany and Vietnam. He earned his GED before being discharged and going into the Civil Service.

Arley met the woman he would marry and start a family with at a little church in Clermont. He worked third shift for 35 years at Olin Brass, often giving up weekends and holidays to save money for what he loved most, fishing and camping. Whether casting a line alongside his wife, fishing with his loyal dog Buddy by his side, or traveling to his favorite destinations like Branson, Missouri’s Bull Shoals Lake and Table Rock Lake, those moments brought him the greatest peace and joy.

Arley never knew a stranger, he loved to talk and make good memories with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Burd, sons, Ronald (Jerri) Burd, David (Anne) Burd, daughter, Tresa Bruckner, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sisters, Glenda (Tim) Adams, Nina Williams, Loretta Burnworth, and his brother, Don Burd. A celebration of Arley’s life will be held later this spring. Condolences may be offered at www.heltonandharrisfuneralhomes.com.
