Allen "Kim" Black

Feb 8, 1954 — May 7, 2026

Danville

Allen “Kim” Black, 72, of Danville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments. Kim was born on February 8, 1954, in Indianapolis, to the late Harley Allen and Jennie Hazel (Wiggam) Black. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harley Eric Black.

When Kim was born, he was known as a “blue baby.” His grandfather, who had Native American roots, told the family, “Name him Kim — he will grow up strong.” And grow strong he certainly did.

From an early age, music became one of Kim’s greatest passions. He picked up the drums around third grade and never looked back. As a young man, he formed a band with friends that once competed against — and lost to — a young John Cougar Mellencamp, a story he always enjoyed sharing. Kim graduated from Danville High School with the Class of 1972.

Shortly after graduation, Kim met the love of his life, Alice Keeney, on a blind double date. One of his favorite stories to tell was the night he went to pick her up, knocked on the door, and her father answered. Kim looked at him and said, “Dave?" who Kim knew as the mailman, "I didn’t know you had daughters.” Dave replied, “Maybe I didn’t want you to know I had daughters.” That chance meeting became the beginning of a beautiful love story. Kim and Alice were married on December 18, 1976, at Danville Christian Church and built a life together filled with love, laughter, faith, and family for nearly 50 years.

Kim retired after 37 years as a truck driver with Watkins Motor Lines, Dean Foods, and Schneider Transport. Though he worked long hours on the road, his family was always his greatest priority. No matter how long the trip, one of his favorite things to do when he got home was jump right back into family life — spending time with his children, later cheering on his grandchildren at countless sporting events, and making treasured memories during family vacations to Myrtle Beach. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Pop.”

Kim faithfully served his community through the his church family at Danville Christian Church, where he played drums in the church band. He volunteered for several years as an assistant middle school wrestling coach.

He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and playing music — especially classic rock and later Christian rock. Kim was known for always making sure his motorcycle was perfectly waxed before every ride and for arriving in style… usually fashionably late. His sense of humor, love for life, and unmistakable personality left an impression everywhere he went. Most of all, Kim will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and a man whose life revolved around the people he loved most.

Kim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Alice Marie (Keeney) Black; daughters, Holly Marie Black and Patricia Ann Black; son, Benjamin James (Tiffany) Black; his beloved grandchildren: Dylan, Drake, and Emmett; siblings; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Danville Christian Church, 180 W. Main St., Danville. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kim’s honor to your local animal shelter or to Danville Christian Church.
